I'm 29M and have $130k net worth due to lucky stock investments and an inheritance from my great aunt. However, I am miserable. I earn $70k per year at my current job doing SEO but looking to change careers and become a UI designer. My eventual goal is to be a full-time remote/freelance UI designer within the next 2 years (I don't mind doing SOME SEO). It's pretty important to me that I get to work remote at least some days as the office life is just not for me.
I don't know why I'm so scared to make changes and just go for it. I have it drilled in my head that I can't lose any money.
My question is, are my savings enough to make a bold move like quitting my job and finding a low paying part-time/contract job (maybe $50k) for the next one to two years? What would you do? My rent this year is $1.3k/month (I live in NYC) but I am moving out in a year to live by myself and will likely pay around 1.7k.
