I went to the ER and ended up having to stay for 7 days to get my gallbladder removed. My insurance denied the claim saying that gallbladder surgery is an outpatient procedure. Basically, I kept having complications (due to past surgeries) which required multiple procedures.

My bill from the hospital is $110k, which would be impossible for me to pay off on my $80k salary with a mortgage and student loans.

1) Are there any tips and tricks to getting this reduced as much as possible? I already know I can call and simply ask for the bill to be reduced, but what more should I know about that process?

2) I will definitely be working with the hospital to get my insurance to pay. If I can get them to accept all of the charges, what can I expect to owe? This is an in-network hospital. For ER visits, I have 20% coinsurance. My deductible is $1000, my out of pocket maximum is $3800, and my total maximum out of pocket is $6000. I have met $2500 of my $6000 "Individual Total In-network Out Of Pocket (oop) Maximum Out Of Pocket", all $1000 of my "Individual In-network Program Dollar Deductible", and $1600 of my $3800 "Individual In-network Out Of Pocket". I'm a little unsure of the distinctions here.

Thanks for helping with any and all of my questions.
