I realised I was reaching for my phone as soon as I woke up. To look at the time or shut off the alarm. The gateway drug to my phone addiction was the need to know the time. I bought a travel clock and was able to stay away from my phone until I got to work.

I took it a step further. What if I made my Sundays a Sabbath? From the first time onwards, I was hooked. So here's what I do:

Saturday evening, before bed, - I turn off my morning alarm, my phone data - I turn my bedside travel clock face down. - My status message on WhatsApp (the only social app I have) says, 'No WhatsApp on Sundays". - My phone is set to "silent" (not even vibrate) - I wake up when I wake up. No alarm - I drink my coffee and mentally make a list of what I'd like to do. Sometimes I jot it down - I have no time allocated to each Item. I just do it for as long as it pleases me. Some days I exercise for a full hour, other days I don't. - I tidy my room, clean house, read... Each activity slides smoothly into the next. No TV. That's for week days. - I check my phone at mid day once for missed calls If I have a prescheduled appointment on Sunday, I will set an alarm that gives me PLENTY of time to dress up and get there. I'm always 15 minutes early for such appointments. But I pull out a book and read and wait. That's it. Better than a vacation. Its become the best habit I ever took up. Its an entire day of mindfullness.

Let me know how it works for you. Mondays have become so much better after this routine.
