I need help... I started my job in late July so I have been there about 4 months. During my time there, I quickly moved on to another seat, which meant more responsibilities. I asked about a raise and my manager vaguely replied with “it takes forever to get a raise, I didn’t get one until I had been here for 2 years.” I kind of let it be, but during this time, a coworker of mine had to have surgery which meant he would be out for 2+ months, so I absorbed his responsibilities. Shortly after that, my other coworker requested 12 weeks of half days to focus on mental health. Our team consists of four people. We have hired a new person to take on the role I started out in, but I have been doing the job of 2.5 people, with no compensation for that. Recently, my boss and manager had a meeting where they offered me another role, which would include responsibilities such as monthly audits, financial advising, credit reports, etc. I looked up duties of an accountant and they seem to match up. No raise has been offered, and I haven’t accepted yet. They said it was less stressful than what I am doing now and they think I would be great because I am such a fast learner and they trust me to do this even without a degree in accounting. Right now I get paid $17/hr. Should I ask for a raise? If so, how?
