I want to preface this by saying we’re 23yrs old I have about $3,500 credit card debt and make $47,000 a year. My gf has no debt and makes about the same as me.

Right now our monthly rent is 1200 for a one-bedroom apartment that is approximately 823sqft. Due to the nature of my job we have an opportunity to move considerably closer to work, however, the new apartment is slightly smaller at 770sqft.

After doing the math with all fees and having to pay the last two months of our lease at a month to month($1,200-1,473) rate we are looking at saving a combined total of $5526 a year. My commute would be reduced from 30minutes to five minutes or less daily and my girlfriend’s commute would be reduced from 30-45 minutes to 15-30minutes on a bad day.

I have some credit card debt and am currently paying $300 a month, I’m projected to pay this debt by late February to early March. Is it worth making the move when we have to pay an increased rate for the last two months as well as moving costs?
