My boyfriends relative is visiting her family in the USA on a tourist visa. She is over 65 years of age, and she had a stroke today. My boyfriends family took her to the emergency room, but his relative does not have health insurance. She’s only been in the USA a few weeks. The family is expecting a big medical bill, and I’m not sure how they’ll be able to pay it.

Are there any resources that they could use to lower the medical bill? She does not qualify for Medicaid or Medicare since she is not a US citizen. I’m not sure if it’s even possible to get travel health insurance at this point?

Does anyone have experience with negotiating the medical bill with the hospital?

Any advice for this situation would be greatly and truly appreciated.
