I apologize if this is the wrong sub for this but I was denied a CitiBank Accelerate Savings Account and when I was denied I was asked this question right before:
"Have you been notified by the IRS that you are subject to backup tax withholding for failure to report all interest and dividends?"
I selected no since one of the options it told me made me exempt was being a US Citizen, which I am.
I have never been asked that before and I had no idea what it meant. Can someone please tell me what might have happened? I am worried about my identity being stolen somehow even though I never give out my SSN unless I know who it is for a fact I am dealing with. Thank you.
