It's pretty commonly known that vinegar, baking soda, etc are cheap and effective cleaning products, but often I read conflicting advice about when it is or isn't okay to use them. For example I've read many people love to put vinegar through their washing machines or dish washers, but I have also read that consistently using vinegar can erode the rubber seals in those appliances and is not a good choice over time. I am interested in the finer points of using household products as cleaners and WHY it is or isn't a good idea. I think a discussion within r/frugal could yield some interesting thoughts.
