After DJ'ing for 10 years in bars and clubs I decided to quit.
It's not that I've simply grown up and want to settle for a family life, it's the realisation that the whole nightlife thing is just fake. I've always been a big music fan and I love to share that passion with people on the dancefloor. That's why I started back in 2009. Not because of money or fame.
However, nowadays it IS more about money, fame, status and the network you have. Celebrities from reality TV suddenly becoming a DJ, having to constantly update your Instagram and Facebook profiles to spam your followers that you have such an amazing time at this legendary party, etc.. Just make sure to post a banging 30 sec aftermovie with lots of flames and confetti! And don't get me started on drunk people with song requests and pushy groupies who think they'll get attention if they're in the DJ booth with you. It's all so fake (yes, it took me this long to realize that).
I love music. I still do. But I'm going to enjoy it in peace, at home, or at a concert venue, instead of having to kiss ass and act popular to get a booking somewhere. I don't think I'll ever regret the decision to quit the hustle and bustle of the DJ life and focus on the more important aspects of life, like health, home, friends and family.
