I was in Target today to buy some stain remover for my dress shirts (because I got some oil on one of my favorite shirts and baking soda and vinegar hadn't gotten it out). I also wanted to buy something to help revive dress shirts that were beginning to look a bit dingy. Suddenly I had $40 worth of cleaning products in my cart! I put most of them back and just stuck with OxyClean and a Shout stain remover... But it got me feeling a little overwhelmed by how much is out there, and so I'm wondering what r/frugal thinks of laundry products in general and how you guys wash your clothes. (For context, I have a top loading wash machine, and I don't go to a dry cleaner, so I'm willing to invest in quality cleaning products for my dress shirts in particular to keep in good condition and not wear them out as quickly.)

Right now I buy liquid detergent in bulk at Costco, and I use those Shout "color absorber" pads so that I can wash whites and colors on warm without having to separate into multiple loads (which I figure offsets the cost of the actual pads). So those are really the only two things I buy regularly. I've never used bleach because I never really learned how it works and I'm deathly afraid I'll ruin my clothes.

But suddenly I found myself going down the rabbit hole of scent booster pellets, OxyClean, stain removers, etc. So that being said, I thought I'd ask the community here whether you guys have any input or recommendations on cost-efficient laundry products versus which ones are just total marketing BS? Thanks!
