Me (26F) and my husband (30M) are trying to plan to be prepared to be pregnant soon. He makes approx. $85k and I make approximately $50k annually. We own our house, live in an area with a pretty low cost of living, and have about $200k left in student loans combined. I have the opportunity to sign up for short term disability insurance (60% of my income) through my employer in 8 months, but there’s a 1 year preexisting conditions clause. This is fine if child birth is the preexisting condition, but if pregnancy is, that may be a moot point. We’re not sure if we can survive on just his income with our debts and other bills if I have no income directly after birth as it stands now (especially with combining health insurance and jumping into child care costs afterwards). We are doing our best to save in the meantime, but is there anything we’re overlooking that we can be doing to prepare? I know we’re not the first couple to stress over something as simple as stopping birth control!
