I've worked at Target for about 6 months. I see so many people spending money unnecessarily every day. As a very frugal person, I wish I could tell them how easy it is to get lower prices. Since I'm not allowed to tell customers this on the clock, I'll tell you all.

  1. Pricematch. Target price matches basically everywhere. From major competitors like walmart and amazon to obscure websites no one has heard of. If you buy name brand, there will almost always be a cheaper place to buy it. Google the item you're buying and show the cashier.
  2. Check that the online price, the shelf tag, and the price on the register for discrepancies. I would guess that roughly 10% of items are not priced the same on all three. We will give it to you for the cheapest of the three. Even if the item is in the wrong spot, take a picture of the shelf tag and show it to us when you check out. Hell, most of the time we'll change it without seeing the shelf tag (so you could lie about it and we would assume its in the wrong place. If you plan on doing that go when its busy and we're unlikely to call a manager over). At my store any employee can change the price of anything up to $20 without an override and anyone that's been there longer than three months goes up to $50. I'm currently at $100.
  3. Check the app for coupons. Theres always coupons. Scan on your phone as you go and make sure you check that the price matches the one on the register. Even if you don't get all the items for a promotion if you just insist that you did, we will change it for you. Sometimes there's a special deal for ordering something for an in store pickup, but most of the time we'll match that in store. If we don't have an item you need we can order it in store and if you insist on free shipping a manager will normally give it to you.
  4. Get a store card during a promo. It's a debit card that links to your bank account and you always save 5%. The best time to get one is during a coupon promotion where you get a $50 coupon for a $100 purchase just for signing up. If you don't go to target often and don't want to spend that much money, they sometimes do a $35 off a $35 purchase. Thats literally free money for just signing up.
  5. You can return ANYTHING. Keep your receipt or the card you paid with and we'll return it. Doesn't matter if its half used or if you ripped a hole in it. We're gonna defect it out anyway. If you get tricked into buying an item that you didn't really need (which target relies on) just return it.
  6. Bring your own bags. It's a $.05 discount per bag.
  7. Check your receipt to make sure everything looks right. If it doesn't, guest service can fix it in no time. Even if it's the next day when you notice it.

Be nice to us and we will have no problem helping you save as much money as possible. Make conversation. Don't snap at us if something doesn't ring up right.
