We've been married for more than a decade, and we have been managing our checking accounts separately and have been responsible for different expenses (I take care of mortgages, utilities, and other big expenses while wife takes care of most of expenses from our two kids). I do make about 3x money wife makes, so I naturally pay for more things and put the rest in the saving. Wife has been complaining that most married couples share all their wealth and insists we should do the same. I do have specific reasons why I didn't want to share bank accounts (well this isn't /r/relationship_advice, so I'll skip details), but I still want to know how other married couples share their finances. I'm thinking of opening a third checking account that has both of our names and use that to pay for all expenses but keep our personal checking accounts separate. Is this a common practice. We also have separate investment accounts and retirement accounts. This is typical right?
