I was asked by my daughter (who works at a bank...so you can guess what kind of friends she has) if I could do her baby shower for her. I was thrilled...it is my grand child, right? Soooo...I asked her what her budget was and she said "as little as you can get away with." In total, it was under $80, and we splurged on the streamers and balloons.

Cake: I found a teddy-bear shaped pan at a thrift store for $3.00. Spent another $5 on a Betty Crocker cake mix and white frosting. Used food coloring from my own pantry to mix up a tablespoon each of baby blue and pink frosting in sandwich bags, and used those colors to highlight the eyes, nose, and paws of the bear. Total cost of an adorable cake: $8.

For games, I chose things that needed very little investment. A bag of clothespins ($3) became the "don't say the word" game, as well as the "drop it in the bottle" game. I found a baby doll at the thrift store and we played 'hot potato' with it. ($2) We raced jelly beans ($1) across a table with baby spoons, ($3) again found at the thrift store. And we walked pingpong balls ($2 for a set of 3) across the yard and into a bucket. Total cost $11 for games.

My daughter bought a bunch of bath fizzies ($10) and we found cool jars I've been collecting to fill for gifts and prizes. The ones without lids were topped with tulle fabric from my collection. We also found a bunch of odd ball stuff at the thrift store (tiny dinosaurs in a salt shaker and one of those cute chicken purses) that we offered up as prizes because they were goofy. Still all was under $20.

The snack table was also done cheaply. I bought three different types of bagel (.50 each at Winco) and sliced them into bite sized pieces, put them in a bowl next to home made melted cheese dip ($8, but I kept half the leftovers!) We got a bunch of cherry tomatoes from the garden. My daughter splurged on sausage balls, but still those were under $5.

Everyone had a blast, everyone took pictures, and my daughter was very happy in the end. A proud grandma moment.
