Many cities have great, activity diverse programs for relatively low costs so since I haven’t seen this posted here, I wanted to mention it’s worth checking your city parks and rec for activities to try such as archery, soccer leagues, hiking groups, tennis, pickleball, dance and fitness classes, guitar/music instruction, cooking, art mediums, language study, etc .

My city publishes (online & hard copy) a quarterly “Recreator” magazine which lists tons of low cost activities you can register for. It’s the way I got back into tennis a few years ago for cheap vs paying private lesson rates of $35+ per lesson.

Similarly, many school districts run an adult learning program with varied activities and classes so that also really keep costs low vs private groups or classes.
