Wtf I’m still trying to wrap my head around this. My siblings just told me the story. For some unknown reason, my dad buried 120k in a pipe of sorts, sealed a cap on the pipe, and poured concrete around it. He left it in his yard for 14 years and just decided to pull the money out because he sold his house. He couldn’t open the lid so he had to use a backhoe to dig it up. When he finally broke the pipe open, stagnant, putrid water had seeped into the bags of money and came pouring out. About 25% of the money is unrecoverable, but apparently the US treasury may be able to reimburse him. He had to hand wash the rest of the bills. Idk I’m just so blown away by how much money he lost by not investing.
TL;DR: don’t bury money in your backyard.
