A lot of people here seem to idolize owning a home out in the country free from smartphones and internet. That's not my idea of simple living.

It's hard to pinpoint when I realized that I fucking hated every aspect of homeownership. Maybe it was the yardwork -- fuck lawns. Or failed home improvement projects. Or dealing with leaking water heaters. Or the A/C dying in the middle of summer. Or shitty neighbors. Or the creeping dread of seeing cracks in the drywall and imagining all the foundation issues. Or the back pain from replacing a leaky faucet. I was also in the suburbs, which fucking suck.

Luckily property values are rising fast in my area and I was able to unload it really easily to one of those buyers that you may see lots of ads for on Facebook. It may not have been optimal, but it was quick and easy and that was optimal for me.

I've minimalized to the point that I can fit into a 10 ft uhaul, so it was easy to move. The apartment is only slightly more expensive per month than my former mortgage.

I'm chilling in a really fucking nice pool right now -- that takes 0% of my time to maintain. A maintenance guy came up and fixed something earlier today. I could have done it myself, but I didn't have to. I can walk out onto my balcony and see a pretty awesome view of the city skyline. My 300 Mbps fiber internet gets set up on Tuesday. There's a grocery store within walking distance and I can ride my bicycle to numerous restaurants and bars.

This is simple living.
