I suck at maintaining spreadsheets. I suck at cell phone calendars. I needed a way to budget and view predictable expenses and track pay cycles. A blank planner has helped me visualize what money I have and when, progress in paying down debts, what spending is planned and how much is done on impulse. I track my goals, my progress, and the reasons for progress or lack thereof. A $2 investment has saved me hundreds in the short time I've had it and stares at me from my shelf waiting for updates as to my financial state. Sometimes the simple answer is the right one. Maybe it's setting achievable goals and rewarding with alcohol. Maybe both.
