When an S&P 500 Company buys an index fund, isn't it technically buying shares of itself?

I'm trying to wrap my brain around how that works. JP Morgan Chase, for instance, owns 26 Billion dollars worth of shares of SPDR S&P 500 Trust ETF... which owns shares of JP Morgan Chase.
