I had a little crack on my crown and went into the dentist to get it checked out. He begins looking at the tooth and the next thing I know he’s telling me, as he’s doing it, that he’s removing the old crown and it needs to be replaced. (I should preface that I have an anxiety disorder that sometimes makes it difficult for me to voice my concerns in the moment)
I know I probably should have spoken up more in the moment, but honestly I was in a brain funk (after being in a depression) and was too scared to, I honestly didn’t say anything.
He knows I have financial insecurities as I’ve had to discuss payment plans with him specifically in the past for some fillings that I couldn’t afford and seemed to be understanding of that.
I’m just a little in shock now because I have to pay $1000 for this crown that I only found out the price after he already removed my old one and placed a temporary. Everything was done so fast that I didn’t know how to get a word in.
I really needed time to think about it before he started the procedure. I would have also liked to know how dangerous it would’ve been for me to just keep that old crown in.
Anyway, I spoke to the receptionist and she just told me to bring in what I could afford to the next appointment and I could create a monthly plan with them for the rest.
I can’t not go back to get the new crown fitted because the temp he put in cracked and I just have a naked ugly half tooth there exposed now. But i really don’t have the money right now, I don’t have a job and just get a little government assistance and am a student.
Should I have been asked to sign something before this was going to be done? I don’t want to argue with them because I get scared that he’ll do something detrimental to my teeth. I don’t necessarily think he had ill intentions but I think I should’ve been given some time as well as an estimated cost before he began.
Any advice on what I should do would be great
