I am in the process of designing a kitchen island. Here's the sketch of it. I'm looking at making the overhang where you sit 18". I'm a tall person so I wanted to make the place where you sit longer. Looking online, it looks like if you have 12" island overhang (this is for laminate/butcher block) you wont need any support. But all I could find for an 18" overhang was for granite island tops that need to have heavy steel reinforcements.For this wood counter top, would I need to support it? If it does need support, how many corbels would be needed, 2 or 3? Is the 18" overhang overkill, would the the 12" overhang be fine?
