My current pair of Birkenstocks are falling apart as they enter their 3rd year. I'm hesitant to buy another pair because I've heard their QC is headed downhill, even since I bought mine, and because they were always a bit too long and a bit too narrow.

Requirements for the new sandals are a heel strap, good amount of support, and wide sizes. Don't really have any aesthetic preferences as long as they aren't ungodly ugly. General use will be walking 5+ miles per day and maybe 2-3 hikes per week. Budget is $200.

I'm going to try on some Chacos soon and was wondering if there is a substantial difference in quality between the imported models with in house soles and the custom/USA built ones with Vibram soles. I've also considered some mom and pop options, Kiwi and Piper. Both will build sandals based off foot tracings, so I'm not worried about fit, but I am kinda concerned about never really knowing what I'm getting until I have them. Obviously neither are as suitable for hiking as the Chacos.

If anyone can share their experience with the brands mentioned above, or can point me towards your own favorite sandal maker it would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
