Last year a couple friends and I went on a kayak/camping trip for the first time. It was great...except for the sun. The 2 nights we had to make camp the sun beat on us pretty bad. Our only shelter from it on a sandbar was creating this out of the kayak poles, a tarp, and some rope. This year we are going with a larger group and I wanted to try to make something better for us to take on our trip. Something that is compact enough to fit in the kayaks, and less expensive than a pre-made I can find online. With that in mind, I have mocked up the following design and am looking for some general feedback, and answers to a couple of questions. The Homemade Dining Fly This is my first real DIY project, but I followed the subreddit rules and did my research as much as I could. My questions now are:Is there a glaringly apparent design flaw that I have completely overlooked? Is PVC going to be a durable enough material for this at the pipe size I have chosen? (have never worked with PVC before)Would it be better to use internal or external couplings for the sections? I was thinking external for stability against wind, but this is the area I have the least experience in. via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2Xi2gZ7
