My wife has been amazing and has supported me throughout my military career until I was medically discharged, so I transferred my GI benefits for her to follow her dream of becoming a BSN-RN. She only has two semesters left. We both come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

I was medically retired due to severe migraines that can occur 3-5 times a week and anxiety due to Iraq service. My migraines hinders my health today, but I fight through it all everyday for my family. I have three daughters I got to spend time with two and raise them while I have been retired reducing child care costs while my wife earns her degree. My wife raised the oldest as I was in the military and deployed. We live modestly and have a reasonable budget, nothing fancy.

Debt is four months away of being paid off besides a car loan. Cell phones are paid off $83 a month that includes Netflix. AT&T ran a promotion for hbo for life and they never cancelled it when I switched to t-mobile’s military rate. We have $4.99 iTunes student subscription and $60 for internet no cable. $49 a month family gym membership. Insurance is a little high but paid every 6 months. I was loyal to USAA but did a new quote with geico and they were half the price I was originally paying. Clothing having three girls as helped a lot. We shop at second hand and wait for deals at kohl’s until we get 30-40 percent off discounts and buy brand new once in a great while in bulk. Healthcare is Tricare select which is 20 percent of the care received which the catastrophic cap I believe is $3k roughly.

We like to live reasonable, nice for the kids but nothing too fancy if you know what I mean. We enjoy taking road trips and sight seeing.

I am extremely young in my 30s. I started taking classes out of boredom and obtained my degree while my kids were at home. I have had bad luck trying to obtain a job as a computer technician in a GS position though, I don’t know if it’s my migraine issue or just didn’t have my degree, but I had years of experience with my preference.

But my question is when there is no debt, car gets paid, and my wife starts her job and her 401k what would you do if you were me with my pension?

Even though it’s not a lot of income a month compared to what people make, it still adds up to what people on this forum save up to for their retirement. It’s like what’s next? It’s very difficult to find an employer who will work with me. I was given injections from the VA but I have to wait for migraine to occur and take the injection which takes roughly 15-30 min to feel normal again. If I go complete my bachelors and then find an employer that works with my health issues what would you do with a pension if you were me?

I have a difficult time being at home by myself but enjoy the time with the kids but they are all growing up into pre-k, elementary, and middle school. I guess I am just used to working hard. I won’t take vacations without my family.

Sorry for grammar mistakes.
