Just a small, oddly specific thing, but nicer wooden soap dishes are a common item to get for gifts with artisan soaps. Mine started to quickly grow mildew/mold, and I didn't want to deal with the fumes of wood sealant. So I sanded them down to get the surface residue off, washed them up and let them dry again.
Took dishwasher safe modge podge and painted 3 coats all over the thing and let it cure for the recommended amount of time. They look just as nice and I don't have to worry about them now.
