This probably isn't for everyone but it helps with how my brain works. I have a rewards credit card I try to put most purchases on and pay off ASAP.

I get paid 2x/month and paycheck is split into 2 checking accounts and savings. One checking is where my bills come from that I can't put on a credit card, like rent. Other checking is for food/gas and "extra" expenses that aren't the same every month.

Well since I put food/gas on my credit card, as soon as I get paid, I put almost all the money on my credit card, leaving a very small amount in my "extra money" checking account.

Seeing/remembering the balance in my checking account is so low (even tho purchases are covered via credit) is enough mild stress that it helps keep me frugal and my mind on only buying things I need vs want.
