First I’m not a full time trader. Place maybe 5 or so trades a month.

Over the last 5 or so years I was able to negotiate my commission with E*Trade from $7.95 per trade to $3.95 per trade.

I usually call them or put in a request online once or twice a year to ask if they can lower my commissions. Sometimes I tell them that other brokerages charge less which is true.

I’ve been rejected a few times but most of the time they lower it without a problem. It doesn’t hurt to ask😀.

Also recently I opened a Fidelity account but they charge $4.95 per trade. I asked the rep nicely if they can match my E*Trade commissions and after a brief hold the rep was able to do it.

The brokerages won’t lower your commission on their own so it doesn’t hurt to ask.

Good luck!
