I am looking for some advice for my plans to install a playground in our backyard. The area where I want to put the playground has an issue with standing water when it rains heavily and I am trying to figure out the easiest/cheapest way to deal with this since this area will be covered with a playground anyways. The area that usually has pooling water is about 8 feet x 6 feet and it is usually only around 1- 2 inches deep at most.A french drain is not ideal due to the layout of the backyard so I am trying to NOT go that route. My initial thinking was to take off 1-2 inches of the top layer of dirt/grass and replace it with pea gravel, then a layer of non-woven landscaping fabric to allow water to drain through it but weeds to not come up. On top of that landscaping fabric I was going to lay several inches of playground mulch and the whole thing would be surrounded by lanscaping timbers to keep everything in one place. My concern with doing this is how do I make sure that the play structure is level and anchored down? If I built the play structure on the ground and then put on the gravel/mulch etc, the play structure would be set in too low. Am I wrong in my thinking and should I be installing the play structure on top of the gravel or mulch? Thanks! via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2WcwzQo
