For a rough sketch of joist and current board design, please see this link for reference: http://bit.ly/2WiBIXm replacing the boards on my 16' X 28' deck due to rot. The previous owner built a 12' X 12' aluminum-framed sunroom on top of the existing deck. The roof and walls of the sunroom are integrated to the house. The wood inside the sunroom is pristine, but the majority of the boards located outside have fungal rot and need to be ripped out. Joists/hangers, support beams, footings, and ledgers are all in good condition and don't need attention. The existing deck board design is some sort of opioid-fueled, crosshatch/harringbone pattern which consequently lead to a large amount of boards running under the sunroom's walls. There's also the potential issue of having two joist demarcation directions I need to be mindfull of. Any advice on how to save the interior boards, if possible will be greatly appreciated! As I see it, there's only 2 ways I can proceed.I can cut the existing boards around the exterior of the sunroom and ensure the sunroom-to-exterior board ends are supported by sistering in joists if needed. Remove all exterior boards and install a staggered, perpendicular pattern. What I'm unsure of is if additional frame work will be needed in order to properly segment the interior vs. exterior decking. I'm guessing there could be other unseen issues (besides having ugly transitions) I need to look into if going this route.I've tried looking for similar layouts like mine, but I couldn't find any solid solutions.Replace the whole damn deck. I'm looking to avoid this option if it's possible, but if saving the interior wood isn't feasible for safety reasons I don't have a choice. All ideas are welcome. Anyone have experience dealing with something similar? via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2El8YD5
