Does anybody else do this?

Whenever an I get an idea like "I should take up swimming every day" or "Maybe I should only have one tab open at a time," or even "Should I buy a new dining room table?" my instinct is to rush online and read everything I can find about the lifestyle change I want to make, research products and possible solutions. I frantically eat up any blog post, forum discussion, youtube video or podcast about the topic. Thing is, I've been reading about minimalism and productivity and simple living for about five years now, so chances are good that I've ALREADY read the articles!

Since I've noticed this behavioural pattern, I've started applying mindfulness; I acknowledge and observe my impulse and let it pass. I tell myself to actually apply the idea opposed to passively living through testimonials written by people who did. It's kinda like how people want to see weight loss or fitness progress IMMEDIATELY.

My theory is that it's kinda like how your brain gets the same reward by telling someone about going to the gym as going to the gym, so you don't actually follow through with going to the gym.

Sharing because I haven't heard discussions of behavioural patterns like this on these forums and was wondering if anyone else does the same thing.
