Background: 25 y/o Portuguese Medical Doctor who just started to work in the UK.
Questions:

NHS Settlement Scheme, is it a plan or some sort of a forced savings scheme by the government to entitle you to get paid after you retire?

I had the option of moving my Retirement "Discounts" to Portugal, no idea which one is the best option, UK or Portugal?

Should I just renounce both of them and save up by myself?

As for saving up money in the long term, since I might be able to put some aside from now on, what is the most viable option? Invest in a house when possible? Savings account? Buy gold?
Sorry for not knowing the specific terminology or even confusing basic financial concepts. Thanks in advance for all your help and advice. I'll be happy to return the favour. (perhaps some medical advice?)
