First of all, you should be confident in your abilities and at least consider yourself 'handy' before embarking on doing your own brakes. However, if you have some decent tools and access to YouTube, then you'll see it's a lot easier than you think. Step one - I got a quote from my mechanic (whom I trust completely, he is great) - $750 for front and back brakes in a 2012 Murano. Step 2 - watch several YouTube videos Step 3 - I went to a local auto parts store and purchased new pads and rotors for front and back for a grand total of $215. I then had to buy a clamp (to squeeze the piston down) which I found at a hardware store for $11.50.

In total, it took me 3 hours spread out over 2 days to complete the brake job. In the process, I noticed that the studs on one of the front wheels needed to be replaced, which I just completed this past weekend after watching another YouTube video. (another $150 saved!) To top it off, I mentioned to a friend that I did the brakes and they asked me to help them with theirs - which I did and received a bag full of craft beer for my efforts.

So in the end, I spent a total of 4 hours, $230 and saved >$500 plus earned a bunch of beer #frugal
