About two years ago I was on my brothers contract as an extra line. He switched carriers so in the interim (or what I thought) I used a free wifi calling app (Freetone) that gave me my own dedicated phone number.
It was working so well that I never actually got a new plan. It's been about two years now and haven't have many problems.
I should add that I have my parents Xfinity account linked to my phone so I can access any of those Xfinity wifi connections that you'll see around town. And I've got to tell you in a major city that Comcast has a monopoly over they are everywhere.
There only thing that is problematic is I cannot get calls while on e the move (i.e. in the car or on the light rail).
Anyways It's probably saved me at least a thousand dollars over the past two years.
