The main issue I'm having is I can hardly attribute the volatility to anything. Like lets say it's because of the trade deals with China. Not much has changed since they first started discussing things, so I don't see any reason for the market to continue to reach new highs then take large dips.

So I find it a bit weird. I can't understand what people are panicking about or what people think "got better" so it's safe to stop panicking only to discover things didn't get better so they resume panicking.

I would normally expect some sort of consolidation period, much like 2015-2016. Something where stocks don't move much until a final decision has been made. That's actually how I personally feel. I'm decision frozen and would like to stay out of the volatility until things seem safe. So I invested heavily in basic materials.

Is it setting up for another dip? Is it just going to bounce between slightly new highs and -15% for the next 2 years?
