I am heavily considering moving to a big city for a job that is likely to help me get into vet school. I have a few great friends in a nice neighborhood there that have a basement apartment that is opening up in the fall. It's close to many important places in the city and I will have parking included.
The rent is $1100 a month, not including utilities. In my line of work, I would expect to make ~2300 a month. That's nearly 50% of my potential paycheck going to rent each month... HOWEVER (and this is why I made this thread instead of just reading others), I am a very lucky young guy who is still somewhat supported by my parents. My phone/car/health/etc expenses are all paid by them--I just pay for my food, gas, and essentials, all of which are controllable by me. I have no loans or anything right now, in fact I have 10k saved up.
Since the other personal expenses in my life are currently a lot lower than most people, is paying such a high rent a practical thing to do?
