Citations Needed podcast just released an episode which dissects the idea of FIRE mindset and the often undiscussed class element of success. I realize that simple living and FIRE are not the same thing but have a lot of overlap, the desire to retire early or live a much less financially stressed life. The episode discusses how these ideas often obfuscates the starting class position of folks who promote these ideas. Curious what folks think about this idea that simple living is an idea that is only possible for those in the middle to upper middle classes. Or is simple living an ideology that can be used to improve the quality of life regardless of class position?
