Got mail from Wells Fargo yesterday and automatically opened it, didn't look at who it was addressed to since it looked like a mortgage bill and that's where my mortgage is. It IS a mortgage bill... in someone else's name, with a different loan number than mine, and the property address IS my home that I've owned for 9 years. I immediately called WF and explained the issue, put on hold a couple of times for long periods, and she confirmed that the property address is the same, etc. She opened a case number and said that it may take 3 days to investigate.
Really, really hoping that it's a pure mistake and not fraud. I haven't seen anyone moving in or out near me that could cause a house number mistake. The horror stories I've seen about being mistakenly foreclosed upon, etc. has me worried. Confirming that I have all the paperwork from buying the house and the loan while I wait.... Anything else I can do? Is there a way to look up property records online? This is in California.
