I got hospitalized last year and I am in debt because of it. Also because of my illness I've ran up some credit card debt. And because of just plain stupidity, I signed an apartment and car lease that was too expensive for me.
Basically, while I slowly dig my way out, I don't really have much to spare. I only have a $100 to spare for groceries every month. Initially I was just going to go back to eating white rice and hot sauce, but then I remembered my friend telling me about this sub and how good you guys are at making shit work for you.
Should add, I'm really allergic to shellfish. Like, even being in the vicinity of it makes me start itching and having minor trouble breathing.
So, help me /r/frugal, you're my only hope.
Edit: Should I go to places like the dollar tree, or does it not a make difference? I have a Harris Teeter right in front of my apartment. That's where I usually go.
Double Edit: I really appreciate all the responses guys. Thank you so much. You guys have given me so many food ideas that I hadn't even thought of. I don't know if I'm ready to go vegan, but I am going to switch to a vegetarian diet, so that I can save money.
I also appreciate those of you who are worried about my financial situation. That's really sweet. It's not so bad guys. One of my hospital bills will be done in 3 months, which will give me an extra $79 a month. I also found a coupon for one of my medications, which might save me another $10 to $15 a month. I also signed up to give blood for money at this army base near me. That’s $100 bucks every 6 weeks. That’s an extra $66 a month. So in about three months, my total expendable monthly food income will go up to $255.
And the hospital I was in said that they would send me over some files for assistance. If I file it out and they approve it, who knows? I have 12 payments of $142 scheduled over the next year. If they cover even two of those payments, that's an extra $24 a month. Things will be a-alright. Just got to get through this rough patch.
