About a year ago I tried my hand at building my own humidifier. The reservoir was connected to the water supply with a float valve, so it was constantly full and level. I atomized the water with some ultrasonic misters which put out quite a bit of water. I blew the water across the room with some fans. Voila. But here's the issue: mineral deposits. The water in my area is pretty hard, so I got a softener and put it before the reservoir which significantly reduced the hardness of the water, but it would still lay down a very fine layer of sediment.Would it be possible to filter the outgoing air of the humidifier in such a way that it captured sediments but allowed water mist/vapor to pass? The misters didn't heat the water, just agitated it, so I'm not sure how much moisture was actually getting into the air in the first place, but would a filter capture it all? Thanks! via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2wx6Cws
