Mobile formatting, yada, yada.. also, sorry in advance if this kind of post isn’t welcome here. I want sure what subreddit to post it in, and you guys are always so creative so here goes!My friend has some sentimental attachment to this specific Mario toy. She tells me that he used to make noises, but the battery died, and now Mario has fallen silent.I did a bunch of searching online for battery replacement tutorials, but the ones I found came apart relatively easier than this toy is, so far.To try to replace the battery, I took the three screws out of the back, thinking he would just pop apart like other Happy Meal toys I have seen videos online about, but the front and back panels just won’t budge. The top screw just made his nose fall out. The middle screw made his arms come loose, but nothing else. I figured the bottom screw would allow the bottom panel, where I assume the battery is housed, to come out, but no dice.At this point, I have proved along most of the seams at the bottom looking for a latch, or pin that is keeping it together, but haven’t found anything yet. I can say that it doesn’t appear that any of the seams are glued together, though. What I can see is that there is a lip on the bottom plate that fits inside a groove in the bottom of the front and back panels, so I know one side HAS to come free somehow. At this point, though, I’m starting to put enough force on the plastic that I fear breaking it.Before I potentially go to far and destroy this thing, I was hoping someone here might have some experience with this toy, or a comparable one. photos of Mario via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2HaNTf7
