Hi folks,Disclaimer: I’m a complete DIY noob, but I’m trying to expand my skills and knowledge with every new home project. So a few years ago before I even wanted to brave more complex home improvements, I bought a DeWalt Driver Drill that came with two 18V batteries. It’s been fantastic so I wanted to stay with that line and buy a Circular Saw and an Impact Drill for a deck project. Problem is I found out that DeWalt has since changed their battery to 20V (and 60v). So any new tools would not be compatible with my old batteries. So if I have to buy all new batteries again I figure it’s also an opportunity to possibly move to a different brand. So I’m not really looking for advice for which brand is better since I know well enough that such things can spark wild debates over personal preferences. What I’m hoping is for advice for things I might not know enough to even research or ask about. For example I noticed most other brands don’t even have 60V batteries so why the heck does DeWalt sell them. I’m assuming most people would probably defer to using a corded power tool if they ever needed something with a little extra ooomph. I just want to slowly build my collection of tools and be confident about buying into an eco system that will allow me to do that with confidence. Nothing’s worse than buying hundreds of dollars of tools and be faced with obsolescence a few years later. Perhaps I’m naive and it’s just the way it is when it comes to power tools.I’d love to hear some feedback. Thanks, via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2WmIGr8
