Forget about HVAC and lighting and this and that. The question is are the beams in the ceiling of a single-story house adequate to support a floor? The house has an attic, so I kind of assume yes, but no one wants to fall through a ceiling, so...This originated with someone else who's looking to buy a particular house. It's single story with an enormous attic. He wants a playroom for kids but there's not a great space for that currently. If it's adequate, the attic could be used to build out a decent playroom. There's a spot for a tight stairwell or else a spiral staircase from the ground floor up, and one end has a window. Other than that it's just very basic framing, drywall, basic electrical (we'd hire for that), and carpet. So what's the consensus? Is this a decent idea for someone with moderate to slightly advanced DIY skills? via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2ZU1rnI
