My significant other and I do not have kids, but we would like to (still a few years off). Started looking into it today and i don't know how we'll do it at first glance.
The usda estimates a cost of 16,000 a year per kid. We both work full time making ok money but still. Plus i have no paternal leave and her maternity is 2 weeks paid. Sure we're still garenteed a job for six weeks if we take an unpaid break.
Plus just having the kid is 30,000 ish medical bills that could happen if we don't walk our insurance lines exactly right.
We don't live near enough for family to babysit. And its one thing if we tighten our belts but looking at the prospect of raising a kid in austerity is kinda heart crushing.
We're better off than the majority of people in there late 20's but we're still paying off student loans. And i just.
I don't even know where to start. Where did i go wrong you know?
