Hello r/frugal.
My dad (71) and I (26) are going through overhauling our garage and he wants my help with picking out tools that i need in the future/want to keep, with the intention of selling or throwing away old tools. Would like some help from someone who knows.
We have quite a bit of tools, many duplicates of things such as drill sets, screwdriver sets, wrench sets, socket sets.
Little background, my dad is (was) a hobbyist woodworker, and we have quite a bit of expensive old wood still, teak, cherry, oak, a little bit of walnut. He has quite a bit of tools for that, including a Rotary blade, a table saw, hand saw, a sawzall, a chainsaw, and a wood planer ( i think he wants to keep this but im not sure i'll have a use for it.) He was also an automechanic and has a pretty extensive set of automobile tools and old (some NOS) automobile parts.
Lastly, we also have some of my passed grandfathers' tools. This is where a lot of duplicates came into the garage. He spent the last 25 years of his life as a handyman.
Can anyone help me with figuring out what I would reasonably need in my future? I dont see myself going into a trade but given my age and the job market I'm not totally leaving it out. I do not know how to work on my car but I assume its something I will pick up as I get older, through frugality.
Lastly, is there a better subreddit to post this? Thanks.
