Hi, I am 59 years old and I just lost my job of 27+ years. I was told the decision was economic i.e, my position was eliminated. They waited until the end of the work day and sprang a legal document on me offering a mere $2000 dollars in severance pay. There was no mention of COBRA or the option to continue any other of my benefits. I felt pressured to sign the document with absolutely no time to even thoroughly read it. I declined to sign and said i felt I needed to see a lawyer first. Was that a good move or should I have taken the pitiful offer? I was an unskilled wage earner. I was looking at a half decent retirement at 65 until this happened. It is unlikely I will ever find a job with benefits again because of my age.
