There was a post here recently on eating the same thing every day in order to make meal planning more simple. I don't remember exactly what it said and I haven't read all of the comments, but I think the general consensus was that most of us did want to have some variety. Same breakfast every day is different from literally the same set of meals every day.

It got me thinking. I've been an enthousiast mealprepper for a while, but it got really tiring after a couple of weeks to keep coming up with new plans for the week that had enough variety yet used up all the ingredients I'd put on the shopping list every time (if I needed pumpkin for my veggie curry, I had to make sure the other half of the pumpkin was used for another dish in that week too, since my freezer is tiny).

I thought of a 'fixed menu' to work with, in order to simplify planning, groceries, and my life in general: Mondays: pasta Tuesdays: rice/couscous salad Wednesdays: fish Thursdays: grilled vegetable salad Fridays: "fatty friday", could be pizza, fries, ... Saturdays: meat Sundays: left-overs, eating what's left in the fridge, or just sandwiches.

The idea is that this menu, while fixing what is prepared, still allows creativity. There are many sauces that go with pasta, many different sorts of vegetables to grill to make a salad, etc. I have been applying it for the past month so it's too early to already start praising the benefits of it, but so far I've noticed that I spend far less time planning for meals and we have saved a bit more money, too. It's easier to eat vegetarian (which is a goal of ours) but we don't feel like missing out on anything because we have lots of variety.

I was wondering if any of you had a similar approach, and if not, whether you like my ideas? I'd be happy to hear from you!
