Hey all, I’ve attached pics to hopefully make helping me easier. I’m attempting to attach an articulating monitor arm through a wall mount to clear up desk space for my built in desk and... it’s been a learning experience. Right now where I’m at is I believe I found a stud that may not be deep enough. The reason for me saying this is while drilling, towards the end of going through the wall my drill bit “broke through something” before hitting another hard object at the very end (my lag bolts tip would reach)So after drilling my pilot hole, and screwing in the lag bolt, towards the very end the bolt will continue spinning, but will not make any progress deeper. Something similar happened to another stud I tried this on (was able to pull it out by yanking on it hard but it spun its way out after the “dead end threads”), but I blamed my still bit for not being long enough as it wasn’t.The second time, the screws feel sturdy, it’s just my mount is just barely not flush as you can see in this picture However, again the bolts spin without going deeper, and in fear of stripping hole, I now rn one to you guys!I know a stud has to be there as all the supports for my built in shelves and desk seem to be screwed into it as you can seeHowever, the supports for my desk have a small wood block between it and the wall My question is should I do the same thing with a wood block for the mount over say, using an impact driver and screwing into whatever the second object is. And if I did use a block, would using the same pilot holes be okay provided I can unscrew everything safely? Thanks all!Edit: using m8x80mm lag bolts and a 3/16in drill bit for the pilot hole via /r/DIY http://bit.ly/2UKuTNn
