Hey all,
I have a 2007 BMW 5-Series i bought CPO in 2010. I love this car. My only possession I genuinely notice a massive difference between it and other replacement offers. I travel for work a lot and drive other cars frequently. Point being, I’m biased.
I have incurred several thousand in repairs - a transfer case, serpentine belt, new control arms, and several sets of tires and other standard wear and tear things.
What is unclear to me is when to call it off instead of repairing.
I did the following calculation:
New car I’d be happy to drive ~600-700/month, no maintenance costs
Repairs to my car per year since 2015 ~4300/annum
Repairs in the last year ~6800/annum
I know it’s impossible to tell future from history here but are there any guidelines on when to upgrade?
My only clear reason to upgrade is safety and newer tech built into the car (ie backup cam, etc)
I drive the car maybe 3000 miles a year, usually Uber to the airport if I’m traveling for work.
Thanks!
