Hey guys,

My wife is 12 weeks pregnant and I am leaving a union position and moving to a non union position (better salary, hours, advancement, everything, etc). My health benefits at the new job don't kick in for 30 days after my first day (28 of may). The last day of my current job (the 24th of may) my current health benefits expire.

I called the union, they recommend COBRA coverage for the 30 day gap. They said it is the same benefits I have now, but we pay for them instead of my employer. I was told it would be 1800 for the 30 days to cover us both. I am thinking about not enrolling myself and only keeping her enrolled, just in case anything went wrong with the pregnancy within that time.

MY wife suggested making all doctors appointments prior to me leaving my current job and then waiting until the new job benefits kick in, but I don't think that is safe.

My wife has the NYS benefit option but she told me there are only certain enrollment dates and she doesn't think she can get on right now. Do you guys have any suggestions and/or advice? Thanks in advance.
