There are a lot of posts on here by people who are dealing with debt issues, and there's a lot of bad information out there on the internet about debt (as well as good information about finances generally that doesn't apply to people who are in debt). I'm a former bankruptcy attorney and just thought I'd share this info: the National Consumer Law Center is a really great resource and they do a lot of work on behalf of consumers and bankruptcy filers. Their book, "surviving debt," is generally directed at attorneys, but it's got really good information for anybody who finds themselves or a family member underwater with creditors. They come out with an updated edition every year and the newest one just came out. Folks might want to check out the book or the NCLC site generally for information. https://library.nclc.org/SD/subscribe?fbclid=IwAR1MXXqlFn8zsBfjWminQnKkfrPh9DLuH0ZQaXUgoEqI2HCfby4bh9a2Rf0
I'm not affiliated with them, I just used their stuff a lot in my practice and found it really helpful. Knowledge is power. :)
